Along the way, he discovers that the human mind has mistaken reality in each of its civilizations and that human life itself does not originate from Earth. He learns that the original source of human DNA is a dragon-like creature that hides in numerous streams of DNA in the human bloodstream and can be summoned by the manipulation of consciousness. When he finally reaches Cheda, he tells a story that contains prophecy.
